- Origins: One of the original
eight mountain and moorland native British ponies. Its origin is
uncertain but during the reign of Canute in 1016, mention was made of
"wild horses living in the forest which is in Hampshire" in
southern England. Foreign blood has been introduced from time to
time, most notably when Queen Victoria lent her Arab stallion Zora
which ran in the forest for 8 years between 1852 and 1860.

most usual, but all colours are acceptable except piebald and
skewbald.

- Features: Very hardy and
surefooted. Has been used in most equestrian sports, including
driving, and has even been raced.
